About the Author

Paul has spent 25 years working all over the world as an engineer, hydrologist and environmental scientist.  He has published extensively in the scientific peer-reviewed literature, and is the author of two textbooks.

Ten years ago, while living in the Middle East, he started writing fiction on weekends and in the early morning.  He survived a bomb blast in a café in Sana’a in 1993 and was one of the last westerners out of Yemen before the outbreak of the 1994 civil war.  The Abrupt Physics of Dying is his first novel.  The sequel, The Evolution of Fear, has just been acquired by Orenda Books (London).

Paul is a university professor and a Director of Australia’s national science agency.  He is a pilot, a sailor, and spends too much time away from home.   He was born in Canada and now lives in Western Australia with his wife, Heidi, and sons Zachary and Declan.  For fun he competes in ironman triathlon.
